Studio Policy 2026

Lessons

Please arrive two to five minutes prior to your designated lesson time so we may begin promptly.

Practice

A regular practice schedule is vitally important to a student’s success. A minimum number of daily practice minutes will be suggested by the teacher. The instructor may require daily practice reports to be completed, and if these continue to be unacceptable, the instructor reserves the right not to renew the piano lesson contract once the prepaid term has concluded.

At the time of enrollment, students must have access to a full-sized, weighted-key keyboard for daily practice and must pledge to purchase an acoustic piano within one year of enrollment. At least one tuning per year is recommended as a minimum. In addition to regular tunings, the piano’s action and pedals should be checked, as uneven key action or mechanical issues make fluent, musical playing impossible.

Tuition

Tuition is paid monthly (for the number of lessons scheduled in that month) and is due on the 1st day of the month. Late payment is subject to a 5% late fee. Payment may be made via check, Venmo, PayPal, or Zelle.

Scheduling

Students are expected to attend weekly lessons, except during the *13 predetermined holiday/summer break weeks. Please understand that the tuition you pay reserves an exclusive weekly time in my schedule for your child.

(Exceptions – With adult students only, as long as we can find your lesson time at the end of my teaching hours for the day, I may be able to offer you a flexible lesson schedule.)

Lessons scheduled on U.S. Federal Holidays will be either cancelled or offered as optional lessons. If taken, these lessons are paid weekly and are not included in the monthly tuition.

For the 10 summer break weeks, you will pay tuition in advance for 8 lessons and select 8 weeks to attend lessons. Summer tuition is due on May 29. Any additional lessons may be arranged on a weekly payment basis.

During Thanksgiving week (1 week) and winter break (2 weeks), there may be optional lessons offered on certain non-holiday days and/or availability for make-up lessons. November and December are a busy season for Certificate of Merit preparation, and some students may be requested to schedule additional lessons depending on their preparedness for the exam.

Cancellation
& Make-up

A make-up lesson (or a refund if a make-up lesson cannot be arranged) is guaranteed if I miss a lesson for any reason. However, no make-up lessons will be provided for student absences with less than 24 hours’ notice.

If you must cancel a lesson with less than 24 hours’ notice, please email me if possible. If your canceled time slot is ultimately used by another student (this may be rare, but it is possible), I will offer you a lesson credit.

For occasional unavoidable scheduling conflicts, a make-up lesson credit will be issued if email notification is given with at least 24 hours’ notice. The maximum number of make-up lesson credits you may hold at one time is two, and any unused make-up lesson credits will expire after 60 days.

Event Participations

Students are strongly encouraged to attend any activities/concerts.

Important not about our studio culture:

Piano study is a discipline in which I find deep purpose—sharing the joy of music with kindred spirits of the next generation: your musical children.

For this reason, I work only with students and families who can commit to establishing a daily practice routine during the first year (and during the first two years for beginners aged four and younger). Consistent home practice is essential for steady progress, and without continued improvement, the joy of learning naturally fades. Each week, I look forward to seeing young musical souls filled with the excitement of discovery and growth.

My studio is a place where we all strive to find and nurture the joy of learning and to unlock our unique gifts. Please join us with a willingness to embrace your part in this shared journey.

Lastly—but certainly not least—my studio is like a second family to me, and I’m profoundly proud of the caring, joyful culture we’ve built together with our wonderful studio families.
